Kentucky Derby Museum
Chris Goodlett received his BA in History/Secondary Education and MA in Public History from Murray State University. He has a 20- year tenure at the Kentucky Derby Museum, currently serving as the Senior Director of Curatorial and Educational Affairs. The education and curatorial teams are a huge part of the mission-driven activities of the Museum, educating approximately 30,000 students annually, creating exemplary exhibits and programs, managing a one-of-a-kind artifact and archival collection and caring for the Museum’s resident Thoroughbred and miniature companion. In his role, Chris also serves as a key spokesperson on various historical and exhibit-related topics. Prior to his current position, Chris served as Curator of Collections at the Kentucky Derby Museum. His major duties included research, documentation and storage of the permanent collection and research, writing and artifact selection for the museum’s exhibitions.
Chris is very active with museum and public history organizations locally, regionally and nationally. He is a past president of the former Kentucky Association of Museums. He served on the governing council of the Southeastern Museums Conference and as the chair of the Southeastern Registrars Association. Chris has also served on various committees for the American Association for State and Local History, National Council on Public History and the Southeastern Museums Conference and has been a grant reviewer for the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Chris has also received numerous awards and honors. In 2013, he received the Outstanding Service to the Museum Profession Award from the Southeastern Museums Conference. In 2022, he was named Communicator of the Year by the Bluegrass Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
